If your board cannot answer these five questions in under a minute each, your AI governance is behind your AI deployment.
- What decisions are now being made or materially influenced by AI in this company? Not which tools — which decisions.
- Who is accountable when one of those decisions is wrong? A name, not a function.
- What is the escalation path when a model behaves unexpectedly? With a clock attached.
- How do we know a model is still working? Drift detection, not vendor assurance.
- What would we stop doing tomorrow if the underlying model became unavailable? The honest answer reveals dependency you may not have priced.
These are not technical questions. They are governance questions that happen to involve technology. Treating them as the CTO's domain is how boards get surprised.
